Three lists, no marketing

What we do, what you do, and what nobody can do

Safety pages usually promise everything and specify nothing. This one is split into three parts on purpose — including the part where we tell you what is not possible.

Part one

What we do

  • A human moderation team, around the clock

Not only automated filtering — there are people reviewing reports, and they work through the night as well as the day.

  • Calls are not recorded

We do not record video or voice calls. To be precise rather than reassuring: chat messages do have a history, the way messages do in any messaging app. "Calls are not recorded" is a narrower claim than "nothing is stored", and we would rather you know which one we are making.

  • A block that actually sticks

Block someone and they will not be matched to you again. It is not a mute and it is not a timeout.

Part two

What you do — reporting and blocking

  1. 1

Skip first if you need to

You never have to stay in a conversation to deal with it properly. Skip, and then handle the rest.

  2. 2

    Open their profile page

This is where both controls live. There is no report button on the call screen itself — if you have been looking for one there, that is why you could not find it.

  3. 3

    Report, or block, or both

Report opens a separate page where you describe what happened and can attach evidence. Block is a direct action on the profile page and takes effect immediately.

  4. 4

Nothing else is expected of you

You do not need to explain yourself to the other person, and you do not need to stay to see what happens next.

Worth repeating because it is the thing people get stuck on: both controls are on the other person's profile page, not on the call screen.

Part three

What nobody can do

  • Nobody can stop the other person recording their own screen. That is true here and true of every video call ever made. What you control is what is visible behind you and what you choose to say.
  • During a video call, the camera button covers the picture on both sides — it does not stop your camera capturing. If you would rather no camera ran at all, start in voice or text mode instead of covering a video call.
  • You can mute your own microphone from the call screen. There is no control for muting the other person; skip is the answer there.
  • We cannot vet the intentions of a stranger before you meet them. No random chat platform can. What moderation does is deal with people after they show you who they are — which is why reporting matters.
